cherries

I was well into the laundry when number one husband popped into the room with a big smile and an even bigger bag of cherries, fresh from the tree. Yea! Pitting cherries is exactly what I had in mind for this day. Well three hours later I have two from-scratch pies and enough cherries for three more ready for the freezer. Sometimes jobs that aren't planned can end up being quite satisfying. Cherry pie is the man's favorite so it will be worth all the effort just to see him enjoy dessert tonight. ( better think about an entree now)

Side thought: Is it just me or are there a lot more bugs this year. I can't stay outside very long 'cause the gnats swarm around me. Early this AM with a mug of green tea in hand I headed for the patio. Those pesky little creatures took the fun out of it. Someone told me lately that misting oneself with mouthwash would keep mosquitos away. Feeling smug about thinking of a solution, I dashed into the bathroom to fill a spray bottle with said ingredient. It just might work for mosquitos but the gnats still drove me indoors and the kitchen now smells like Listerine and cherry pie.
