another outing
John and I needed to get away from the Granny Camp ghosts that were making us miss the family so we took off for a drive to Bernadotte, IL. This quaint little historic site situated on the Spoon River is worth the drive, once, tho I don't recommend the scenic route that we took. Gertie, our gps woman, couldn't find it and neither could we. After driving miles thru farm country, which was pleasant enough, and asking for directions twice, we found Bernadotte. It consists of a few residences, a park by the river with a falls, and a cafe. The cafe is small town ordinary but the food is good and the pie homemade. It's uniqueness comes from the hummingbird feeders hanging outside each of the cafe windows. I have never seen so many hummingbirds in one location before. We had a long wait for our food but it didn't matter because the entertainment outside the windows was delightful. After lunch we regretted that we hadn't brought the camera and also our books. Being parked beside the river with a good book would have been a great way to spend the afternoon. Maybe next time - if there is one.
