It was with great anticipation that I awaited the big snow. For me a snow day means no work, just enjoying the snow. It like it when the world stops, people stay home with their families, no hurry or scurry. Snow days on the farm started with the children hopping out of bed without being called then racing to the radio to listen to the school closings. Those were great days. We watched the snow fall, played games, made cookies and watched the snowdrifts grow into small hills in the barnyard. Snow days in town are not quite the same. I could see that the snow was blowing but couldn't see much accumulation in spite of the big numbers the forcasters were giving out.
Hans had the idea that we would go out and shovel every hour so that we wouldn't have all that snow to deal with at once. It sounded ok to me, I like shoveling, but the wind was nasty. We went out after the first two hours of snowfall and there was a good amount to move. Before we finished our neighbors came over, each with a small snowblower, and helped us finish.
Besides clearing a path to the birdfeeder and sweeping the back porch, that was my only trip out. It can wait. I am not going anywhere. Back to my rocking chair by the window, the knitting and the teapot. Ah snow days. I love them.
I am right here in Illinois (Peoria area) with you enjoying the great blizzard of 2011. I don't share your feelings about a snow storm. :-) I like to get out and go. I did make cookies today and listened to the scanner. Lots of accidents today.
