the end

Today all the fun stuff that I pulled out of the attic and the basement for Christmas was sorted, organized and returned to its resting place for another year. Putting away was not as entertaining as bringing it out but it had to be done.

While sorting the tree ornaments, I realized that the ones that gave me the most pleasure were the ones given to me. Remembering the gift and the giver gave me opportunity to reflect. Some items are growing old and a bit tattered but still hold a place of honor on the tree.

Wouldn't it be nice if we could return to a simpler way of gift giving. May I suggest that we not minimize the handmade gift that can become a keepsake, like the plaque made for me by my sister-in-law a lot of years ago. "Love One Another" hand painted on a shake shingle. From the farm to Florida, to Capitol St. to Caroline St. this humble gift has been hanging on a wall for us to enjoy.

Last week Hans designed and made little wooden snowmen ornaments for each of our grands. I hope these will grace their Christmas trees for future generations to behold and appreciate.
